Dr Edwin Egede appointed as an alternate member of the International Law Association

Dr Edwin Egede has been appointed as an alternate member of the International Law Association (ILA) international research Committee on Baselines under the International Law of the Sea. The ILA is a leading international body for international law experts founded in Brussels in 1873 which is engaged in promoting the study, clarification and development of international law, both public and private, and the furtherance of international understanding and respect for international law.
Dr Egede's latest book, Africa and the Deep Seabed Regime: Politics and International Law of the Common Heritage of Mankind, has just been published. Dr Egede demonstrates the role of African states in the development and establishment of the regime of the deep seabed beyond national jurisdiction (the Area) and the concept of the Common Heritage of Mankind.
Professor David Boucher, Head of School, commented that 'Edwin's election as an alternate member of the International Law Association is fitting recognition of his important contribution to our understanding of the development of the idea of rights and responsibilities beyond states' borders.'
