Before coming to Cardiff I held a a two-year Junior Research Fellowship at Oxford: this travelling post enabled me to live in Paris. Before that I graduated from the same university with a first in French and Italian and, more recently, a D.Phil in French.
My doctorate looked at the writing of Maurice Blanchot (1907-2003), which touches on philosophy, literature, and the political. I focused on the change whereby he began writing in fragments and dialogues at the turn of the 1960s. I am currently working on a monograph partly drawing on this work, and entitled Writing the Many.
My research interests include modern literature and thought from a comparative perspective, and I am working on French philosophers Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe and Jean-Luc Nancy. I have translated several books from the French, the latest being Nancy’s Adoration (the Deconstruction of Christianity, II).
I have won various prizes and scholarships, for instance the 2006 Oxford Junior Prize for Dante studies. In 2009 I was an AHRC/ESRC visiting fellow at the Library of Congress
