My teaching experience includes teaching languages in secondary schools in both France and in Britain. This gave me a good starting point when joining the Higher Education system, with a clear understanding of school leavers’ knowledge of languages and general concerns. I am Head of Year 1 for French here at the School of European Studies.

My teaching experience also includes teaching Business French in companies throughout South Wales.

Teaching Interests

Translation is of particular interest to me as all aspects of language and cultural study seem to coalesce in this fascinating exercise. I enjoy teaching translation at all levels, which I relate to my professional experience in this field: over the last decade I have done a fair amount of freelance work as a translator for some major companies in France but also in the field of music, for instance translating classical music CD sleeve notes into French.

I also have a special interest in CALL (computer-Assisted Language Learning), WELL (Web-Enhanced Language Learning) and OLEs (Online Learning Environments). I was part of a small University-wide team to pilot the Blackboard and Web-CT projects. Now that Blackboard has been chosen as the University e-learning platform, I am using it for all the modules which I co-ordinate.

I was also involved in the setting up of the CAN-8 virtual language laboratory which EUROS acquired. The Multimedia lessons which we create are specifically targeted for our students’ needs. I am always looking forward to exciting innovations which technological developments can provide to our students in the classroom.

Biography

I studied for a Licence in Modern Languages at Paris III (Sorbonne Nouvelle), followed by a Maîtrise and a Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies in British politics at Paris III University.

I also became agrégée de l’Université in 1992.

I joined Cardiff University in September 1993.
