Professor Richard Wyn Jones joined the staff of Cardiff University in February 2009 as Director of the Wales Governance. He is a Professor of Welsh Politics. Previously he was Professor of Welsh Politics and founding Director if the Institute of Welsh Politics at the Department of Welsh Politics in Aberystwyth University. Richard has written extensively on contemporary Welsh politics, devolved politics in the UK and nationalism. In addition, he was also one of the founders of Critical Security Studies. Richard is a regular and widely respected broadcaster, commentating on Welsh politics in both Welsh and English for the BBC in Wales and across the UK. He has also presented two TV series. Richard is also a regular columnist for the Welsh language current affairs magazine Barn.

  • Awarded £1,826.54 by the University of Wales Aberystwyth to employ Research Assistant for 3 months to collect and collate information on the politics of devolution in Wales 1888 - 1997. September - December 1998.
  • Awarded funding by the University of Wales Board of Celtic Studies to employ full-time Research Assistant for two years on a project on the 1997 Welsh devolution referendum - value approximately. £40,000. August 1997 - August 1999.
  • Part of successful bid in conjunction with the Centre for Research into Elections and Social Trends (CREST) to the ESRC for £50,000 to conduct 1997 Welsh Referendum Survey. Award Number M543285001.
