Dr Russell Holden

Dr Holden completed his PhD in 2004. His Doctoral Thesis was entitled ‘The labour party and the European issue. A critical examination of the significance of European Policy to the renewal and modernisation of the labour party 1983-1997’.

Russell is now Director of In the Zone, a Sport and Politics Consultancy Unit. As sport plays an ever increasing part in contemporary global society, “In the Zone” was created by Dr.Russell Holden to recognise the ever increasing role that sport plays in our global society. The organisation offers an incomparable insight into the realities and complexities of sport, embracing the connection between Sport and Politics. In the Zone offers a unique
range of services to organizations in the public, private and voluntary sectors in the UK and overseas.

Russell regularly contributes his expertise to news and features programmes on BBC Radio 4,5 and Radio Wales. He is also Co-Convenor of the Political Studies Association of specialist research on Sport and Politics (2006 – present) .
