Dr Neil Bentley

Neil completed his PhD with the School in 1999. He was a Researcher on European employment law and industrial relations issues, with his Thesis focussing on trade union attitudes to racism and immigration. Since leaving Cardiff University he has held several prestigious roles at the CBI heading up both the Skills and Employment and Public Services Department.

Dr Bentley was appointed deputy director-general in February 2011. He has worked for the CBI since 2002, holding a variety of senior roles with responsibility for policy areas including climate change, public services, employment, trade unions and skills. Appointed to the post of director of business environment in 2008, Neil has spearheaded work on energy, transport, planning, and environment regulation. He led the CBI’s climate change campaign, which helped shift the perception of the role business can play in moving to a low-carbon economy.
