Maindy Park Campus: Masterplan

Aerial view of Maindy Site

Consultants: Powell Dobson

Scope of Works:

A former railway site, the land has been disused for some years. Now, it is proposed that it should find new life as an academic campus.

The Park would be a phased development of buildings for research, postgraduate teaching and showcasing the University’s academic excellence.

There would be a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary working, with space for new research initiatives to start up and grow.

A masterplan for the site has been drawn up for the site in consultation with local residents. This has just been submitted to Cardiff Council for determination. There would be a pleasant, green, parkland setting to the development, which will also be accessible to the public. The development would be sustainable, with all buildings meeting the highest environmental standards, using large central atria to make the best use of natural light and heating.

If planning permission is received, it will be number of years before all the buildings are complete. The first has been named the Haydn Ellis Building

This project is part of the Campus Horizons Investment Strategy to transform the working environment throughout the University Estate.
