Mechanical Engineering (BEng/MEng)

Mechanical Engineering is the creative application of scientific and expertise to the design, construction and operation of products and processes. Mechanical Engineers combine imagination with modern technology to offer innovative solutions to meet the complex requirements of society and industry. In all industrial sectors, Chartered Mechanical Engineers develop well-designed products, manufacture them by efficient processes and sell them skilfully on world markets.
All the teaching staff on the Mechanical Engineering programme are Chartered Engineers, each with their own research interests and expertise, and many of them have worked for companies such as Rolls-Royce, ICI, Shell and Aerospatiale. Our research activities are consistently recognised as being of a very high international standard and the School of Engineering has close links with industry and is at the leading edge of technology. Obviously this enhances undergraduate teaching and project work and, furthermore, gives students a flavour of working within a research environment - perhaps a future career for some of our top graduates?
