Supporting your Development

In addition to the pursuit of your research, we encourage all of our postgraduate research students to take advantage of the range of activities on offer to support your studies, increase your understanding of the field and related issues, and enhance your career prospects.

Such activities include postgraduate skills conferences and courses covering topics from research methods and technical writing to patents, innovation and business management. The range of courses offered is designed to provide opportunities for research students to gain skills in all of the key areas identified in the Research Councils' Joint Skills Statement.

We provide extensive computing facilities for our research students, which can be used to access specific reference materials and the university network giving access to a wide range of software packages. Further, specialised IT facilities, such as dedicated CAD workstations, are available in our extensive computing suites.

Cardiff University is also among the few UK universities to have a dedicated facility for postgraduate students. The Graduate Centre offers additional resources in terms of space, study and social facilities, skills workshops and events for postgraduate students.
