You will now see the main Blackboard screen.

The My Courses box.

Blackboard uses a series of 'courses' to present content and tools. Most of the Blackboard courses will relate to the taught modules that make up your degree scheme. Within the School of Engineering we also have a number of School and Scheme level Blackboard courses that provided administrative information and tools. You will be automatically made a member of (enrolled onto) all of the Blackboard courses that are appropriate to your study year. These courses will be listed in the 'My Courses' panel on the main screen.

The My Announcements box.

Blackboard has an announcements facility. Within the School of Engineering announcements can be made within both your degree scheme Blackboard course and within each of your module courses. Any new announcements that have been posted within any of the Blackboard courses that you are enrolled in will be shown on the main screen in the 'My Announcements' panel.

PROCEDURE: ACCESS BLACKBOARD ADMIN COURSES

1. Access Blackboard Courses

The My Courses box.

All of the Blackboard courses that you have been enrolled onto will appear in the 'My Courses' panel on right hand side of the main Blackboard page (Click on the 'Cardiff University' tab from the top of the Blackboard screen) and also in the list of 'Courses in which you are participating' on the 'Courses' page (Click on the 'Courses' tab).

Within the School of Engineering courses which begin with the code '03/04 - ENnnnn - Title' (where n is a number) relate to the appropriate taught module. Courses which begin 'ENGIN - Title' are special courses, usually for administrative purposes.

For example 'ENGIN - School' is the top level School module to which everyone is enrolled, 'ENGIN - Foundation' is the scheme level module to which all Foundation students are enrolled. Similarly there is a scheme level module for every degree scheme taught within the School of Engineering.

To access any Blackboard course click on either of these links.

2. School Level Administrative Module

The School level administrative module primarily carries formal documentation, such as the minutes of meetings of the various committees established to manage the teaching programme within the School. This module is subdivided into sections related to each of these committees, 'Boards of Studies', 'Staff Students Panels', 'The Teaching Executive Committee' and the 'Discipline Management Teams'. Within these areas there are further subdivisions to reflect the various levels at which the committee operates, e.g. 'School', 'Civil Discipline', 'Mechanical Discipline', 'Electrical Discipline'. Within each of these areas the documentation related to the activities of the appropriate committee will be provided.

3. Scheme Level Administrative Modules

Most of the sections are self explanatory and provide areas for particular types of documents, information or tools associated with the module delivery. For example:

  • The 'Module Admin' section provides access to administrative information related to the module.
  • The 'Module Content' section can be used to delivery lecture notes, presentation and support material.
  • The 'Assignments' section can be used to provide assignments, assessments and quizzes.

Administrative information (within the 'Module Admin' section) is provided for each and every module provided by the School of Engineering. The module tutor(s) can supplement this information if he/she wishes.

Academic content will be provided individually by each module tutor. As such the quantity, scope, depth and style of this content will vary from module to module and from tutor to tutor according to their preference and delivery style.
