Creative and Critical Writing image

Cardiff was one of the first universities in the UK to offer a PhD in Creative Writing, and over two decades we have prepared graduates for careers as writers and in the publishing industry. In recent years our graduates have acquired publishing contracts with major publishers and taken up teaching posts in British universities and overseas.

Creative Writing at Cardiff University fosters creative exploration and innovation while enabling students to develop a crucial evaluative purchase on their own practice alongside the ability to locate their own work within wider discursive fields and cultural contexts.  The intellectual and social environment is both supportive and stringent, from genre fiction to poetry (and beyond). Our programmes demonstrate how dynamic and stimulating creative writing in the academy can be.
We host regular research seminars with presentations by staff, postgraduates, guest speakers, and visitors.
