The Centre for Language and Communication Research in Cardiff received a large grant from the Leverhulme Trust in September 2001 for a 5-year programme of research in the area of language and global communication.

The programme studied the impact of globalisation on linguistic and communicative practices in a number of domains, including the media, tourism, health communication and Welsh language and culture

The work formally ended on December 31st 2006, although a number of publications resulting from the programme are still due to appear in 2007.
