TENTH SCINTILLA OPEN POETRY COMPETITION

Scintilla is published by the Usk Valley Vaughan Association
with financial support from the Welsh Books Council
and the University School of English, Cardiff

There are two sections, one for short poems up to 50 lines and the other for longer poems and sequences (no length limit).

 The judges are the poetry editors of Scintilla:
       Anne Cluysenaar – long poems and sequences.
       Hilary Llewellyn-Williams – short poems.

 Three prizes in each section: First prize: £200; Second prize: £100; Third prize: £50

 Deadline for submissions: 31 July 2008

 Winning entries will be published in whole or in part in Scintilla 13 (2009). Commended poems may be offered publication in whole or in part.

 

Rules

  1. Deadline: arrival on or before 31 July 2008.
  2. Poems cannot be altered after submission.
  3. Competitors will be notified of results by mid-September (see entry form).
  4. Poems must be in English and previously unpublished.
  5. Winning poems must remain unpublished until they appear in whole or in part in Scintilla 12, due spring 2008.
  6. Please type on one side only of A4, making sure that each page carries the poem’s title and the relevant page number.
  7. Entries must be anonymous – please make sure your name does not appear on the poems.
  8. Accompany your submission with a SEALED ENVELOPE containing (1) your name, (2) address (with if possible telephone number and/or e-mail) and (3) payment. Mark the envelope on the outside with the titles of the poems submitted but NOT your name (for details of payment, see entry form).
  9. Please note that no responsibility can be accepted for lost entries, nor can typescripts be returned: authors are advised to keep copies.
  10. The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence can be entered into regarding them.
  11. Poems in addition to the winning poems may be offered publication in Scintilla.
  12. Those involved in editing Scintilla are not eligible to enter the competition.

 You may like to know that Scintilla 10, the current issue, contains the results of the Seventh Scintilla Open Poetry Competition, judged by Anne Cluysenaar and Hilary Llewellyn-Williams. The winning and commended texts appear in whole or in part in that issue.

Single copies of issues 1 & 2 @ £6.95/$16; 310 @ £7.50/$17. Any two issues from 110 @ £12.50/$30. Complete Sets, 19 @ £55/$120. (All prices include packing and postage.)
