PhD Research

My thesis examine the link between Hume’s theory of the self and his virtue ethics, and poses the question of whether the two are metaphysically compatible. The ideological tension between a self that rapidly changes its constituents and yet must maintain durable character traits is my main focus, though this leads me to discuss related topics such as the relation of free will to personal development, moral psychology, and dispositional theories of the self.
