Helping Wales thrive

We are the main provider of medical and healthcare training in Wales, with graduates ranging from doctors and nurses to midwives, physiotherapists, dentists, occupational therapists and opticians.

We also offer opportunities in the Schools of Pharmacy, Medicine and Healthcare Sciences for students to study and practice through the medium of Welsh.

There's a growing demand from patients and employers for Welsh medium healthcare professionals. Patients need to be able to communicate in their mother tongue.

Dr Zoe Morris-Williams, Lecturer, School of Healthcare Studies

Much of their education takes place in NHS locations all over Wales with a significant number remaining in Wales upon graduating.

Across the University, our academics are tackling some of the most pressing health-related challenges facing society today.

170 ways to use your Welsh

We also train Wales's professionals in other sectors such as Law.  We are the only Russell Group university to offer legal professional training courses (the LPC and the BPTC) of which many elements are also taught in Welsh.

We also launched a new BA Welsh and Journalism degree to develop future Welsh language journalists for the media industry in Wales. Over 170 undergraduate modules from Zoology to Philosophy can now be studied in Welsh at Cardiff University.

Transforming communities and lives

We work hand in hand with communities across Wales and use our expertise to support self-help projects.

These include flagship engagement projects which aim to transform Welsh communities by tackling poverty, boosting the economy, and improving health, education and well-being.

We work in partnership with schools across Wales to break down social and economic barriers to widen access to university generally, not just our own.
