Postgraduate Research (PhD)

Cardiff's School of Earth & Ocean Sciences is the only one of its kind in Wales and has a large, internationally recognised research programme. The School provides training and a high level of support, and the postgraduate community makes a vital contribution to the University’s international reputation for research.

Current research areas for MPhil and PhD include:

  • Climate and Life
  • Environmental Science and Policy
  • Solid Earth Processes

Note the call letters (in parentheses left of each project title) denote the Research Groups with which each project is affiliated:

  • MM – Magmatism and Metallogenesis
  • 3D – 3D Seismic Lab
  • GD – Geodynamics
  • MB – Geomicrobiology
  • PC – Palaeoclimate and Climate Systems
  • ESP – Earth Surface Processes

The deadline for submission of PhD applications for projects beginning October 2013 is:

1 February 2013
