MESci Programmes

The Cardiff MESci programmes are four year undergraduate degree schemes aimed at training students for a research career in academia, government or industry. Students with a Cardiff MESci can enter directly into PhD programmes in Cardiff or other universities and the advanced fourth year courses and research skills also provide an enhanced basis for entering into professional careers in earth sciences. MESci programmes are available in the following:

Environmental Geoscience (MESci)

Earth & Environmental Science (MESci)

Marine Geography (MESci)

Exploration & Resource Geology (MESci)

Geology (MESci)

With all of our MESci courses there is also an option (the MESci International) of applying to spend Year 3 of your degree at a high-ranking university in North America, Australia or New Zealand. Module credits obtained during this year count towards your degree.

Environmental Geoscience (International) (MESci)

Earth & Environmental Science (International) (MESci)

Marine Geography (International) (MESci)

Exploration & Resource Geology (International) (MESci)

Geology (International) (MESci)

The Cardiff MESci programme provides you with considerable flexibility in your choice of modules and schemes. In each of your four years you will undertake research training of increasing intensity in which you choose topics that match your interests. In the final year you will complete a research dissertation and attend a series of modules providing the skills and knowledge necessary to underpin your dissertation work. The nature of research means that you will be involved in small-group teaching and will have the opportunity to work within the School's internationally recognised research groups.
