Nick Russill qualified as an Exploration Geologist and his career started doing gold exploration in Australia. TerraDat Geophyiscs was established in 1992 providing innovative subsurface mapping services using non-invasive geophysical techniques to map anything from unexploded ordnance, water, through to archaeology and environmental targets.
In 1993 Nick was awarded 'Young Welsh Entrepreneur of the Year' and has also won several business awards for export of expertise from Wales.
With business roots still firmly set in geosciences and mapping, he co-founded Terralogic - a company providing rugged computing solutions for military applications which was sold in 2011.
Using their expertise of making maps, in 1996 Nick and his colleagues looked to the skies and launched the internet’s most popular winter sports weather website: Snow-Forecast.com which was followed by sister sites including surf-forecast.com, weather-forecast.com.
Working with Topcon - a leading innovator of imaging and positioning technology, TerraDat Geomatics was established providing 3D surveying solutions with terrestrial laser scanning and photogrammetry.
Recent roles in the survey world have involved consulting with the RAF / AIB for plane crash site mapping. Work on historical sites, led to TheArkHive.org - a not for profit venture aimed at promoting community 3D digitization of national heritage sites. Nick has appeared on Channel 4 Time Team and BBC1 Countryfile as an expert on 3D mapping and imaging for archaeological sites.
In 2014, Nick established Landtech Geophysics - a joint venture with Landtech SA offering microseismic monitoring services to the Shale Gas and Geothermal industries.
Nick is a Vice President of Cardiff Business Club and has promoted entrepreneurship in local schools under the Welsh Government Dynamo Project.
Outside work, Nick is a professional photographer and has led field workshops in the Arctic and Antarctica. Nick is qualified as a First Responder for the Welsh Ambulance Service to be the first person on scene at serious 999 calls.
