EXPLORE CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Ian previously worked as a professional hydrographic surveyor for an environmental consultancy firm, being responsible for the project management of marine geophysical surveys for the development of offshore wind farms. He has also undertaken coastal feasibility studies related to marine disposal involving bathymetric, dispersion and water quality studies.
Ian has also taught at Southampton Institute where he was a Senior Lecturer responsible for the development of modules in hydrographic surveying as part of degree programmes in Environmental Science and Marine Geography. Whilst at Southampton he also undertook various consultancy work including Charting Surveys for the Hydrographic Office and the development of a tide gauge training package for the Indian Navy.
Ian maintains his interest in things nautical outside academia as he is a keen dinghy sailor. Ian won his first world sailing championship at the age of 14 and has since won numerous sailing events at international level. He is planning to get his two young children afloat as soon as he can find lifejackets that are small enough!
