Research
Our Research Mission
To advance oral, dental and craniofacial health through excellence in research.
The School's research is divided into two successful themes - Tissue Engineering & Reparative Dentistry, and Applied Clinical Research & Public Health. Each theme consists of several research groups working closely together. Researchers may participate in more than one group and in some cases, work across themes.
Our research is strengthened through collaborations with complementary research disciplines at local, national and international levels. Interdisciplinary research is a major part of the school’s strategy and staff are actively encouraged to collaborate within and outside the University.
Cardiff provides a thorough training programme for all its postgraduate students to support their research career development. Postgraduates play a very important role in the development of our quality, internationally competitive research. We therefore offer PhD, MD, MPhil and MScD research programmes.
Our academic staff regularly publish the results of their research in peer-reviewed journals of the highest international standing. These publications include Human Molecular Genetics, Journal of Clinical Microbiology and other well-respected journals in the field of dentistry.
We have received in excess of £10 million over the last six years in competitive funding for our high quality basic, applied and clinical research from government, industry and charitable organisations.
University requires that all research involving human participants or human material or human data is subject to formal ethical review and approval.
The School has its own high quality research facilities and equipment to underpin its in-house research programmes.
