Editorial Responsibilities

In 2011, I was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Dentistry. With an Impact Factor of 2.947 and ranked 6th out of 81 journals ranked by ISI Web of Knowledge/ Journal Citation Reports, the Journal of Dentistry is the established leading international dental journal in the field of Restorative Dentistry. Placing an emphasis on publishing high quality and novel research, the Journal of Dentistry seeks to influence the practice of dentistry at clinician, researcher, industry-leader and policy-maker levels. The Journal publishes 12 issues per year, with each issue containing 10-12 articles. We also publish 3 supplement issues per year. In 2011, 900 new manuscript submissions were received. As Editor-in-Chief, I lead an international team of 5 Associate Editors, 1 Statistical Adviser, and 50 Editorial Board Members. I retain overall control, and responsibility, for the content of the Journal. I also successfully liaise and interact with the US-based Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry, who currently publish two annual supplements to Journal of Dentistry, under the title of 'Journal of Color and Appearance in Dentistry'. As Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Dentistry, I am also responsible for the content of 'Journal of Color and Appearance in Dentistry'.

Teaching Profile

Undergraduate

As a Senior Clinical Lecturer/ Honorary Consultant, I have teaching responsibilities for leading teaching for Removable Prosthodontics. Since my appointment at Cardiff, I have extensively revised undergraduate teaching in Removable and Fixed Prosthodontics. I have been a strong supporter of the use of on-line and electronic media for the delivery of educational programmes, being the first person to deliver a lecture in the School of Dentistry as a podcast. My teaching interests include all aspects of Restorative Dentistry, with special emphasis on Removable and Fixed Prosthodontics, Adhesive Dentistry, and tooth-coloured restorations.

Between 2009 and 2011 I served as Deputy Lead and then Lead for the Clinical Dentistry Theme Panel, which has managerial responsibility for the delivery of clinical dentistry teaching at undergraduate level. Clinical Dentistry is the largest of the five theme panels within the School of Dentistry manages teaching within Adult Dental Health, Oral Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. I am currently Head of Prosthodontics.

I am the Unfair Practice Co-ordinator for the School of Dentistry.

One of my students, Leili Sadaghiani has won national (3M Oral & Dental Research Trust) and one international (Academy of Operative Dentistry European Section Research Award) prizes for her PhD work.
