Dental Surgery student life
Our current students share their educational, clinical and social experiences.
Year 1 of the Dental Surgery BDS is primarily located at the School of Biosciences, in the heart of the Cathays Park campus.
Located close to the civic centre and a short walk from the Students' Union and the City Centre, dental students study the basic sciences of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry which are the foundation for the practice of Dentistry.
The School has recently undergone a major refurbishment, adding to the modern facilities it offers.
Years 2 and 3
Year 2 and 3 students are based at the University Dental Hospital on the Heath Park campus.
Progressive healthcare education and patient care are successfully integrated with outstanding research in this major teaching and research centre.
Much of the building has been subject to multi-million pound refurbishments in recent years in order to provide students with some of the best educational, clinical and research facilities in the UK.
We have been at the forefront of 'outreach' teaching since opening the St David's Primary Dental Care Unit in 2002.
Located a few miles away from the University Dental Hospital, this facility provides students in the later years of their course with a wide range of clinical experience by providing primary dental care for those in the local population without a dentist.
In 2012 we opened our second Primary Care Dental Unit in Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley.
Expanding upon the principles and success of the St David's Unit, this state-of-the-art facility provides an exceptional clinical and educational experience for our students whilst providing vital community dental services in an area of long-term, high dental need.
