Basic skills in Colonoscopy

Aimed at ST3s, Staff Grades in Gastroenterology and Surgery and Trainee Nurse Endoscopists, this is an intensive 3 day course focusing on individuals scoping technique.

Applicants will need to complete a pre-course assessment and need to obtain the approval of their Educational Supervisor. All applications are reviewed by the faculty for approval before a place is allocated.

Basic Skills in Upper GI Endoscopy

Our training

Aimed at ST3s, Staff Grades in Gastroenterology and Surgery and Trainee Nurse Endoscopists, this is an intensive 2 day course with e-learning focusing on individuals scoping technique.

Equipping delegates with basics for safe practice and providing support and constructive feedback, there is plenty of opportunity to practice your skills on specifically designed models and patients. Applicants will be expected to be in a relevant placement and have access to 6 months’ worth of Endoscopy lists after the course date.

Applicants will need to complete a pre-course assessment and need to obtain the approval of their Educational Supervisor.

All applications are reviewed by the faculty for approval before a place is allocated.

Endoscopic Simulator Course

Endoscopic simulator

Aimed at F2, CT1, CT2 - looking to apply for a ST3 post in Gastroenterology or GI Surgery, or Trainee Nurse Endoscopists and Staff Grades.

This course will focus on how to handle a Gastroscope and Colonoscope with individual feedback on your practical scoping technique from experienced Faculty members.

Hands on Polypectomy skills

Suitable for ST5 – Consultants, this hands-on JAG course aims to provide core knowledge related to the endoscopic procedure, specifically developing handling and therapeutic skills of polypectomy technique.

Course Aims

- How to increase polyp detection
- How to assess and classify polyps
- Polypectomy technique
- Common difficulties
- Key safety principles – diathermy, risk assessment
- How to recognise and manage complications
- Clinical judgement, ‘levels’ of polypectomy difficulty and the MDT

PEG First Assistant Placement Course

PEG First Assistant Placement

An exciting one day course specifically aimed at teaching the skills and knowledge required to place PEG feeding tubes as first assistant for specialist Nurses who have identified this learning need as part of their professional development.

Life-like models will be used to demonstrate and practice the skills and technique.

The morning comprises of lectures covering a range of topics including indications for PEG, consent process, anatomy and physiology and complications. The afternoon will be spent on the practical training on life-like models with small groups and experienced faculty members

This 2-day course is aimed at ST5+ and Consultants who are interested in teaching on JAG Endoscopy Training courses and / or currently teach in their clinical setting.

The programme revolves around a series of skills training and micro teaching sessions in which the participants will have the opportunity to learn & practice positive critiquing and teaching methods.
