Stars forming

We study a range of topics in galactic and extragalactic astronomy and cosmology, including both theory and observation and the development of astronomical instrumentation related to these topics.

Our key research examines:

  • observations of high-redshift galaxies and their implications for both cosmology and galaxy formation
  • theoretical, computational and observational studies of the formation of stars and planetary systems
  • the design and construction of astronomical instrumentation, especially at millimetre and sub-millimetre wavelengths, for ground and space-based observatories and for studies of the Cosmic Microwave Background theoretical work on early Universe cosmology and the large-scale structure of the Universe.

There is also a varied and highly active community of postgraduate research students based within our group.
