I am the Laboratory Manager for the Tissue Engineering and Reparative Dentistry research theme.  My responsibilities include managing the Health and Safety in the laboratories and I carry out inductions for all new staff and students joining the laboratories.  I am also Lead PD for any projects covered by the Human Tissue Act and manage the Cardiff School of Dentistry Tooth Bank.

I began my career studying at Glasgow University where I received a BSc (Hons) in Immunology.  I then moved to Liverpool University where I completed a PhD in 1996 on "The Role of the Neutrophil in Rheumatoid Arthritis".  After this, I worked for diagnostics company in Cardiff called RSR Ltd where I was employed as Deputy Quality Manager.  This role involved being part of a small team which created a quality system to achieve ISO9001:2000 accreditation for the whole company.  In addition, the team was responsible for health and safety, regulatory matters and quality control for the whole company.  This included dealing with regulatory authorities around the world as well as the Health and Safety Executive and the Environment Agency in the UK.  After 7 years with RSR Ltd, I returned to academic research undertaking a postdoctoral research position with Prof Paul Morgan in the Medical Biochemistry Dept of the then University of Wales College of Medicine.  This role was working on developing an immunoassay for the membrane attack complex of the complement cascade and was done in conjunction with an external company, The Binding Site, in Birmingham.  I then joined the School of Dentistry in 2005 as Laboratory Manager and now manage a team of 6 technical professionals as well as the facilities, health and safety and human tissue matters of the Tissue Engineering and Reparative Dentistry theme.
