Overview

  • I am a Clinical Lecturer in Conscious Sedation and Special Care Dentistry, and honorary Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry.
  • I work part-time as a Clinical Academic and part-time as a General Dental Practitioner and Speciality Doctor, providing primary and secondary care with a focus on Special Care Dentistry and Conscious Sedation.
  • I am the co-chair of the Dental Sedation Users Group for University Dental Hospital, and Clinical Lead in Outreach (PDCU) Conscious Sedation.
  • I am on the review panel for the Journal of Disability and Oral Health

2011-present: Clinical Lecturer Conscious Sedation and Special Care Dentistry,  Cardiff University School of Dentistry

My duties comprise of didactic and clinical chairside teaching on the Special Care Dentistry and Conscious Sedation Clinic at University Dental Hospital, as well as clinical chairside teaching on the Dental Education Clinic at University Dental Hospital. In addition I provide didactic and clinical chairside teaching at the Primary Dental Care Unit (Community-Based Teaching) in St David's Hospital, Cardiff. My main teaching interests are in pain and anxiety management, and the treatment of medically compromised patients. 

2006-2011: Clinical Research Fellow,  Cardiff University School of Dentistry

Prior to my Clinical Lecturer role I was a Clinical Research Fellow at Cardiff University, providing didactic and clinical chairside teaching on the Special Care Dentistry and Conscious Sedation Clinic at University Dental Hospital and at the Primary Dental Care Unit (Community-Based Teaching) in St David's Hospital, Cardiff. My PhD undertaken during this appointment was a qualitative investigation of stakeholders' perceptions of Conscious Sedation for adults dental treatment.

I am an internal examiner for Year 5 Final BDS, writing and marking questions on Special Care Dentistry and Conscious Sedation. I have been an internal examiner for the MSc in Conscious Sedation at Cardiff University.

I currently provide postgraduate courses on aspects of Special Care Dentistry and Conscious Sedation for Dental Care Professionals, Dental Core Trainees, and General Dental Practitioners.
