Prosthodontic Skills Laboratory teaching

I am responsible for the supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students working on their patient cases.

The undergraduate students are required to use the technical skills that they have gained through their taught courses to treat patients.  These sessions consolidate the student's learning and help develop their levels of manual dexterity.

The work that they undertake comprises of the following.

  • Articulation of dental casts
  • Surveying of dental casts
  • Partial Denture design
  • Special tray construction
  • Occlusal rim construction
  • Diagnostic waxing

Postgraduate students studying for an MSc in Clinical Dentistry undertake more complex cases and I provide technical advice and support for the treatment planning of their patient cases.

Teaching Support

I design and construct innovative resources that support Dental Education.  These resources employ a large variety of materials, mould making techniques and have been constructed in a number of different scales.

  • Tooth charting models
  • Endodontic radiographic models
  • Hygiene and Therapy scaling models
  • Tooth wear/composite build up models
  • Large scale teaching models

I am also responsible for setting up Typodont cases for postgraduate Orthodontic courses

I am actively involved in supporting university research by designing and constructing innovative resources.  I have a good problem solving ability and can usually find a way of getting things done!
