Trosolwyg

My research broadly focuses on the comparative study of Latin American slave systems and pathways to abolition. I am interested in identity formation in the African Diaspora and interconnectivity and exchange between Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. My research has led me to examine the British anti-slavery campaign in its international context, principally in Brazil and Cuba in the nineteenth century.

Cyhoeddiad

Addysgu

I teach on a broad range of undergraduate modules, including a final year module that can be studied by students from across the school. I teach history and culture modules with a transnational scope and framework in the first and second year of the Portuguese degree programme. I am also involved in language teaching delivery across the Portuguese degree programme.

Final year students interested in a dissertation topic related to the history and culture of the Portuguese-speaking world are welcome to enquire about supervision.

Bywgraffiad

I joined the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies Department in Cardiff at the end of 2018. I have previously taught for short periods at Queen’s University Belfast, Leeds Beckett University and at the University of Bristol. I received a PhD in Latin American History from the University of Leeds in 2015.

Before starting at Cardiff, I spent some time living in Portugal and I have also lived in Brazil as a student and as a researcher.
