24 Gorffennaf 2017

Cardiff University Sport

It has been graduation this week for many Cardiff University students and as such it seems fitting to celebrate and thank our graduating High Performance Programme (HPP) students, for their successes and contribution to the programme and Cardiff University sport this year.

Five HPP students are graduating this year; Sarah McKeever (BScEcon International Relations & Politics), Matt Wallis (BSc Marine Geography), Elliot Thomas (Master’s in Educational Practice), Ben Millar (BSc Physiotherapy) and Hannah Thomas (PG Dip Legal Practice), all who have contributed to Cardiff University sport in BUCS competition over the year and indeed during their time at Cardiff University.

Elliot was part of the Cardiff University Men's Futsal team who made the BUCS Futsal Championship final helping secure victory against Loughborough University, as well regularly playing in the Welsh Futsal League. Matt picked up numerous BUCS medals in the various BUCS sailing events, and Sarah made the podium twice at the BUCS indoor and outdoor athletic championships, also representing Ireland at the European Team Championships last month. Both Hannah and Ben have represented Cardiff University in BUCS events and at national level throughout their time at Cardiff University.

The ‘Cardiff Reds’ awards are in their 4th year and recognises the HPP’s exceptional performing graduate’s each year. To become a 'Cardiff Red' members of the HPP must have contributed to the programme and university sport significantly throughout their time as a student and additionally, they must be achieving at the highest possible level internationally with the aim of continuing to progress their career after graduating from University.

Congratulations to Sarah, Matt and Elliot who were presented with the 'Cardiff Reds' awards this year.

On behalf of Cardiff University Sport, thank you for all your efforts this year and during your time at Cardiff University and best of luck for your future career and sporting endeavours!
