Social Sciences staff awarded medals by Learned Society of Wales

Thereza Dillwyn Launch Dillwyn Medal Learned Society of Wales

Academics at the School of Social Sciences have been awarded medals by the Learned Society of Wales in recognition of research contributions.

Dr Rhiannon Evans has been awarded the inaugural Dillwyn Medal for outstanding early career researchers in Social Sciences, Education and Business.

Also recognised is Professor Chris Taylor, co-director of the Wales Institute of Social & Economic Research, Data & Methods (WISERD), who has been awarded the inaugural Hugh Owen Medal in recognition of his significant contributions to educational research in Wales.

The medals, awarded by the Learned Society of Wales, were presented in a ceremony at the Royal College of Music and Drama.

Dr Rhiannon Evans is a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for the Development and Evaluation of Complex Public Health Interventions (DECIPHer), leading a research programme focusing on mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

She is also an Associate Senior Lecturer at the Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre (CASCADE).

Of her award, Dr Evans said: "I am honoured to receive the Dillwyn Medal in recognition of my contribution to social science research. I am very fortunate to work in such a supportive and vibrant research evironment, and am particularly appreciative of my excellent colleagues at DECIPHer and CASCADE".

Dr Taylor is Professor of Education Policy at the School of Social Sciences, having published extensively on a wide range of educational issues. He is also editor of the British Educational Research Journal.

Of his award, he said: "I am honoured to have been awarded this medal. It is fantastic recognition of the educational research that we conduct in the School of Social Sciences and WISERD, and I am extremely grateful for all the support I have received from the many colleagues."
