China visit for Deputy Dean

Professor Mohamed Naim, Deputy Dean of Cardiff Business School, has recently returned from a three-day visit to China.

During his visit Professor Naim met with senior staff members of Xiamen University’s School of Management, Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai (BITZH) and Beijing Normal University Zhuhai (BNUZ).

Given Cardiff University’s strategic agreement with Xiamen University Professor Naim discussed with the School of Management’s Dean and Assistant Dean, opportunities to strengthen and expand on the existing research links, involving joint seminars and collaborative projects.

At BITZ, where he was joined by Dr Kevin Stagg, the School’s Director of Student Recruitment, Professor Naim signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding to allow students from BITZ’s accounting and finance course to undertake a 2+2 degree i.e. the first two years in BITZ with two more years in Cardiff. Dr Stagg said: “Discussions with Professor Kevin Zhen, BITZ’s Vice President of Global Affairs, highlighted the opportunities to expand the MOU to encapsulate business and management undergraduate degrees as well as possible masters level provision.”

While in China, Professor Naim also attended an International Business School Deans Forum at the Beijing Normal University Zhuhai (BNUZ) Campus, 18 – 20 November 2016. This gathering was organised to coincide with the Zhuhai campus’ 15^th Anniversary Ceremony.

He led a presentation on the School’s distinctive and progressive Public Value strategy, elaborating on how the School is promoting and delivering social improvement alongside economic improvement through its research, teaching and governance.

Talking about his visit, Professor Naim, said: “I was pleased to attend the BNUZ anniversary celebration, as well as visit Xiamen University and BITZH. It was an opportunity to acknowledge and nurture existing relationships while also developing new professional links with the assembled business school Deans.

“Cardiff Business School welcomes a significant number of Chinese students to Cardiff every year while our faculty is engaged in a variety of research activity with Chinese counterparts. We greatly value that knowledge exchange and the contribution the Chinese student community to the academic and social life of the School.”

The Business School’s relationships with its Chinese, and international, partners are much valued and helps to facilitate the development of new research collaborations and highly successful student exchange programmes.
