A team of fundraising runners from the School of Law and Politics recently took part in the Cardiff Half Marathon.

The team, which consisted of Professor of Political Philosophy and International Relations, David Boucher, Lucy Boucher (David’s daughter), Lecturer in Law, Huw Pritchard, Research Associate, Rachel Minto and Professor of Political Science, Roger Scully took to the streets of Cardiff on Sunday 2 October to raise money for Reaching Justice Wales.

Reaching Justice Wales is part of a network of seven Legal Support Trusts across England and Wales that work with the Access to Justice Foundation to support pro bono and advice agencies. Their work ensures that funds can be distributed where needed most throughout England and Wales, helping organisations that support those who need legal help but cannot afford it.

Luckily for the runners, Cardiff’s usual weather decided to stay away and the sun came out for the duration of the race which was a 13 mile run through many of the city’s areas which included Roath, Penarth and Riverside.

The fastest member of the LAWPL team was Lucy Boucher with an impressive time of 1:32. She was followed shortly by her father David at 1:50 and Roger Scully at 1.51.

At the time of writing the team had raised a remarkable £1100 for Reaching Justice Wales which is the largest amount ever raised for the organisation in a single fund-raising event.

Speaking after the race, Rachel Minto said, “I’m really pleased that all members of the School team made it over both the start and finish lines in one piece! Thanks very much to all those who sponsored us. We’re delighted to have been able to make a contribution to the crucial work of Reaching Justice Wales.”

Anthony Seys Llewellyn, His Honour Judge Seys Llewellyn QC Chair of Reaching Justice Wales / Cadair Cyrraedd Cyfiawnder Cymru added, “Cardiff University’s School of Law and Politics ran the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for Reaching Justice Wales and raised  an impressive sum.  They did terrifically, in support of a great cause - access to justice. My thanks and warm congratulations to all of them.”
