Academic colleagues gather for China conference

Cardiff Business School played host to a two-day conference on China in the Global Economy from June 27 to 28 2016.

The agenda setting event, to strengthen the strategic partnership between Cardiff University and Xiamen University, was organised by Professor Jason Xiao, Professor of Accounting and co-ordinator of the Centre for China Business Research at Cardiff Business School, Professor Feng Liu of Xiamen University, and Dr Matt Flynn from Newcastle University Business School.

Academic colleagues from the three institutions presented 13 papers debating accounting, business, economic and finance issues in China and around the world.

Professor Martin Kitchener, Dean of Cardiff Business School, welcomed the participants in an opening speech on day one while Professor Ian Tonks, Bath University, delivered the conference’s key note address. Professor Tonks’ talk focused on director share trading and corporate governance.

Professor Xiao, said: “Our professional working relationship with Xiamen University is important, at a School and University level. It is a strategic partnership that has enhanced study exchange opportunities and increased the scope for research collaboration. This conference was an opportunity for colleagues from Cardiff and Xiamen to come together to debate and engage across a number of topics while furthering professional and personal relationships.”

Participants attended a conference dinner held at Cardiff’s Park Plaza hotel and also enjoyed leisure time visiting Cardiff Bay.
