The University this week hosted a debate themed on how Welsh universities can collaborate with businesses to stimulate the economy and reduce unemployment.

Convened in a lecture theatre of the Bute Building, the debate was chaired by the Earl of Selbourne who mediated the discussion.

Participating speakers included the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan; Edwina Hart, the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport; Sir Terry Matthews; and Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge.

The debate was organised by the Foundation of Science and Technology and the Learned Society of Wales. Following the discussion was a drinks reception and dinner.

Also present were the University's Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hywel Thomas; Sir John Cadogan, Chairman of the Learned Society; Dr Lynn Williams, Chief Executive of the Learned Society; and Dr Dougal Goodman, Chief Executive of The Foundation for Science & Technology.
