Famous fathers and sons celebrate Cardiff Unviersity graduation

15 Gorffennaf 2013

Kevin and Hugo McCloud

There's a double celebration in the McCloud family today as designer, writer and television presenter Kevin McCloud received an Honorary Fellowship from Cardiff University on the same day his son Hugo graduated from the School of Architecture with a Masters of Architecture.

Falkland's War Veteran, author and public speaker Simon Weston OBE also proudly attended his son James' graduation from the School of Engineering. Simon himself was made an Honorary Fellow in 2005.

Other graduates today include maths genius Alex Thorne. Two years ago he secured a first class undergraduate degree aged 15; now he's done it again, completing his postgraduate research degree and becoming a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) at the ripe old age of 18. He now plans to do a quantum theory PhD at St John's College, Oxford.

More than 6,000 students will graduate in this year's ceremonies, and approximately 20,000 people will be welcomed to Cardiff for the celebrations. The event is one of the biggest in the University's calendar and the ceremonies will be broadcast live on the Big Screen in the Hayes area of Cardiff and streamed on the University's website.
