The School of Social Sciences has been successfully awarded Erasmus funding to strengthen research and teaching connections with some of the best universities in China.

This success will allow for number of short-term staff and student exchanges in collaboration with three Chinese institutions: Peking University (PKU), the University of Chinese Academy of Science (UCAS), and Renmin University of China (RUC).

The School is very pleased to be collaborating with these prestigious universities. PKU is second to none in China: ranked No. 1 and 41st in the 2015/16 QS World University Rankings. UCAS is the top institution in China for the study of science, media and technology, and RUC is the most important school in social demography and sociology in China.

Dr Sin-Yi Cheung, Director for International and Engagement at the School of Social Sciences, said: “Many of the research areas in which Cardiff excels map directly on the expertise areas of RUC, UCAS and PKU, and all four institutions share strong traditions of research-led teaching.

“The trips covered by this funding success will greatly benefit staff and postgraduate students alike by providing a multicultural and diverse teaching and learning exchange environment in both Cardiff and China.”

“There will be opportunities to explore common research interests and hopefully pave the way for exciting future teaching and research collaborations.”

Funding of more than €57,000 was awarded by Erasmus+ through its International Credit Mobility scheme.
