Dr Jo Hunt
Late last year Dr Hunt submitted written evidence on the role of national parliaments in EU governance to a House of Lords enquiry. The report was published this week, and her work is quoted in it.
Professor Urfan Khaliq
The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has awarded Professor Khaliq and Professor Anver Emon (University of Toronto and Princeton University) a substantial research grant with a view to them (re)examining the Hague Child Abduction Convention and its application in non-Hague Countries. This is part of the ‘Malta process’ and both will be representing Canada in various meeting in The Hague and elsewhere (one such meeting is in April 2014) as part of the project. The idea is to propose how the Hague Convention can be ‘reconfigured’ so that ‘common ground’ can be found in the various approaches taken toward it and to find a ‘general reconciliation’ between cultures and religious traditions. Professor Khaliq will do the international law examination, Professor Emon the other (primarily) Islamic law side. Various governments have already signalled their support for their work and the initiative. They will submit their final reports in late 2014 where these findings will be the basis for proposals for treaty amendment which Professor Emon and Professor Khaliq will partake in.

Dr Bernadette Rainey
Was invited to give a paper at a one day Modern Law Review sponsored Seminar at the University of Northumberland on the 12th March 2014. The title of the one day seminar was Consent, Compulsion and Sexual Offenders: The Compulsory Treatment of Sex Offenders" She gave a paper on "Consent, Compulsion and Sex Offenders: The Impact of Human Rights."

Pensions on divorce: an empirical study, (project report and key findings)
She presented the findings of her project at a seminar at the Nuffield Foundation on Wednesday 26 March, jointly with Jo Miles and Emma Hitchings on their project, Assembling the jigsaw puzzle: Understanding financial settlements on divorce. She was the co-author of the full report of that, published in November 2013.
She is also co-author of an article in Family Law this month with the same title (Assembling the Jigsaw Puzzle) and sole author with Mark Sefton of an article in Family Law, April edition on the Pensions on divorce study findings.
