School of Engineering at heart of European project

In combination with European partners, the centre is working on a project that could help to revolutionise design and construction.

The project focuses on Vocational Education and Training (VET) for Building Information Modelling (BIM), and is called ‘BIM4VET’. BIM generates digital representations of buildings and structures, and can be used to analyse their efficiency. The project is aiming to devise a skills matrix for BIM users, as well as standardising training and certification across Europe.

Researchers from the School of Engineering will be collaborating with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, as well as France’s Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA). The project is part-funded by the European Commission and by the Erasmus+ scheme, with €95,000 out of the total €270,000 heading to Cardiff.Dr Haijiang Li will be co-ordinating the ‘BIM4VET’ team at the BRE Centre, and he will be backed up by Professor Yacine Rezgui, Director of the BRE Centre.
