A group of children using the CITER maggot racing track to race the maggots using torches.

During February members of CITER attended two Primary Schools; Woodlands Community Primary School in Cwmbran on the 12 February and Cwrt Rawlin Primary School in Caerphilly between 15 – 16 February to deliver various outreach activities.

The first visit involved delivering our popular maggot racing activity and the second visit was to teach the children about the human body. The "maggot racing" activity was demonstrated to ninety children throughout the day and members taught the children the life cycle of a maggot and how maggots are used in wound healing. The visit to Cwrt Rawlin Primary School involved delivering our "bones and organs" activity to children in year three and year four over a day and a half visit.

Many thanks to the PhD students for delivering these workshops including Benjamin Rumney, Mike Pascoe, Hayley Pincott, Kathy Beirne, Mukhit Kulmaganbetov and undergraduate students Melissa Hewitt and Saskia Monaghan.

Public engagement is a key part of CITER and this year's calendar is very busy. CITER would welcome volunteers to attend forthcoming public events and visit local Primary Schools; if you are interested please contact:
