RCM honour

Robin Stowell, Emeritus Professor of the School of Music, has been honoured for his outstanding contribution to international musical life.

He was one of six outstanding individuals conferred with Fellowship of the Royal College of Music (FRCM) at a formal ceremony on 12 March. The Fellowships were conferred by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Professor Stowell, an alumnus of the Royal Academy of Music, was recognised for both his academic work and his achievements as a performer. He now joins a host of famous names inscribed in the Fellows' Book, including Thomas Beecham, Pablo Casals, Edward Elgar, Arthur Rubinstein, Malcolm Sargent, Jean Sibelius, Leopold Stokowski, Richard Strauss, Arturo Toscanini and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Among others to receive honorary awards this year were pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa (both HonDMus), soprano Janis Kelly, tenor Toby Spence (FRCMs) and actor Edward Fox (HonRCM).
