Contemporary composition has been an essential part of the School of Music since its foundation. We offer a fresh and diverse range of approaches.
Composition staff have established national and international profiles. All are active collaborators with professional performing groups in Cardiff, across the UK and abroad, maintaining the strong connection to contemporary music interpretation and performer collaboration that characterises composition at Cardiff University.
Works have been performed and commissioned by a range of companies including:

Our composition modules offer a broad range of workshops with visiting composers and professional contemporary ensembles each year, including recordings of new music by staff and students.
Our composition community is strengthened by our resident student ensemble, the Cardiff University Contemporary Music Group.
