Four years later he was offered the principal post in the orchestra, which has gone on to change its name to BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He has remained in this role for over 30 years. During his time with the orchestra he has worked with many of the top orchestras in Great Britain including RSNO, RLPO, RPO, BSO, WNO and LPO.

He has been active in the education field for many years, tutoring in percussion until summer 2014 at RWCMD, where he also ran education workshops specialising in schools outreach and composition for percussion.

He is also known for production of Tubular Bell Mallets for the profession, as well as his percussion compositions and tutor books, especially his two latest books for vibraphone and snare drum. All of his compositions are either self-published or published by Alto Publications, and available through Southern Percussion.

Away from percussion, Chris runs his own photographic business.
