Fees and Funding

For the latest tuition fees please follow the main University website link: Postgraduate Tuition Fees.

The School is eligible for ESRC funded PhD research and we are happy to support the applications of promising candidates in our fields of expertise. For details of eligibility and an explanation of the grant-making process, please visit ESRC Funding Opportunities.

Overseas applicants have been funded by the British Technical Assistance programme administered by the British Council, the Commonwealth Technical Co-operation Programme, the Ford Foundation, the World Bank, the EU or their own government or employer. Self financed students may pay the fees in two instalments.

At present, minimum living costs for students from other countries are estimated to be about £6,000 p.a. (for twelve months) in Cardiff and inflation is currently below 5%. Some students may be called upon to assist with teaching in the school, or with research projects. However, the number of hours of extra work which research students may be asked to undertake is limited to six hours per week, and so should not be relied on to meet basic expenses.
