Professor Chris Webster gave a presentation entitled The Experience of British City Planning at the School of Geography and Planning at Zhongshan University, Guangzhou, on 25th September 2006.
Professor John Lovering presented a paper entitled The Fear of the East in the Workshop of Europe and China on 29-30th September 2006 at the University of Dortmund.
Fulong Wu was interviewed by the BBC programme Cultural Shock in July 2006, in which he talked about the development of gated communities in China.
Professor Fulong Wu has joined the editorial board of Eurasian Geography and Economics, and Overseas City Planning.
Professor Fulong Wu was invited by the Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC) to attend its 50th Anniversary Celebration in Guangzhou in September 2006.
In 2006, fieldwork was undertaken in China, including work in a redeveloped village in the University Town of Guangzhou.
The International Association for China Planning (IACP) was formally established at the 46th Annual Conference of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning in Kansas City, Missouri -- and Fulong Wu has been elected by the Association as the member of the first Board of Directors.
The Urban China Research Centre is working on urban transition, poverty and property rights in six Chinese cities, in pioneering work that has already earned support of more than £250,000 from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Professor Clifton Pannell, one of the pioneers on contemporary urban China research, gave a seminar on 8th June 2006 at Cardiff School of City and Regional Planning. He is currently visiting Oxford University.
Professor Gu, the deputy director of the Council of the Chinese Association of Geographers and a leading researcher in urban geography, gave a seminar in April 2006 in which he provided an example of the strategic plan for the city of Harbin to illustrate the development of a new type of city plan in China.
Dr. Ya Ping Wang gave a talk on Urban Polarisation, Poverty and Implication to Planning in China on 15th Feb 2006, at Cardiff University's Glamorgan Building.
Two sessions took place at the last Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers that focused on Spaces of New Urbanism.
