Urban, Peri-urban and Regional Food Dynamics: Towards an Integrated and Territorial Approach to Food (PUREFOOD)
Introduction
PUREFOOD is a Marie Curie Initial Training Network that aims to train a pool of early-stage researchers in the socio-economic and socio-spatial dynamics of the (peri-)urban and regional foodscape. Specific projects focus on three key aspects of the new food geography: sustainable food supply chains, public sector food procurement practices and (peri-)urban food strategies.
The PUREFOOD Initial Training Network consists of 7 full network university participants from 4 EU Member States (Wageningen University, the Netherlands; Cardiff University and City University London, the UK; Pisa University, Italy; and Latvia University, Latvia) and 8 associate partners from the private sector, NGO, and government (the Peri-Urban Region Platform of Europe, the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform, Sodexo, Willem & Dree, Slow Food Italy, Stroom Den Haag, Sustain, and the Municipality of Tukums). The PUREFOOD network also includes two International Cooperation Partner Countries: Brazil (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) and Uganda (Makerere University School of Public Health).
