Food Policy Councils on the March: A World of Growth in Food Democracy

Citizen-led efforts, often in partnership with private and public interests, are becoming a more prevalent and effective force for food policy change within local jurisdictions.

In North America, the number of food policy councils has soared to nearly 200. Worldwide, food strategies and plans are increasingly adopted by local and national governments. Though significant challenges, such as the industrial food system, remain, the prospects for continued growth in "grass-roots" inspired food policy change are high.
