Recently, the provision of space for the dead has become more problematic in The Netherlands. Local governments experience difficulties in expanding existing or creating new graveyards, or meeting environmental legislation.

Individuals face significant increases in costs for burials and graves. At the same time, a new geography of the dead is developing by means of memorial sites on the internet. This lecture will discuss the Dutch geography of death, as well as the associated planning challenges.
