Tuesday 28th May 2013 - 5:30pm
Committee Rooms, Glamorgan Building.

Public lecture hosted by the Innovation and Engagement Unit.

This lecture will be presented by Professor Terry Marsden. Director of the Sustainable Places Research Institute.

In order for the Globe to cope with population growth, depletion of resources (especially energy, food and minerals), environmental pressures and climate change there is increasing recognition that it will be necessary to radically transform approaches to the production, consumption, processing, storage, recycling and disposal of biological resources.

One major nexus for achieving this is seen to be the development of the bio-economy. These trends have significant challenges and opportunities for rural areas in the second decade of the 21st century.

The presentation will explore some of the new trends and questions of the management of rural space with regard to the different pathways towards more sustainable place-making.
