In this creative and challenging environment, students learn about the nature of the social, economic, political and environmental processes that shape town and country, and the various ways in which public policy, at European, national and local levels, can improve the quality of life for the public at large.
Cardiff is as much committed to teaching and community engagement as it is to research. Its teaching has been rated independently as excellent and the School has been consistently rated the top planning school in the UK in terms of its research environment and number of world-leading researchers (Topping the RAE league). It hosts the UK’s Centre for Education in the Built Environment, a unique organisation in the world, funded by Central Government to develop and innovate best practices in teaching and learning and in linking teaching and research. The vast majority of CPLAN’s teaching staff are active researchers and all its active researchers are committed to teaching.
