Research Interests

Dr Frank's interests are twofold:

On one hand she explores issues in planning education such as research-led teaching and creative, imaginative curricula design. Linked to her work in CEBE, Andrea has been awarded a number of grants to foster the development of employability (including Personal Development Planning) and entrepreneurship skills teaching in Built Environment courses in the UK. She frequently runs departmental workshops for UK planning schools and has also organised national level events on planning education issues, e.g., Creative Planning Curriculum I (2003) and Creative Planning Curriculum II (2004), the Future of Planning Education in UK (2006) and Planning Education to Planning Practice (2008).

In addition, Andrea is interested in urban governance and political structures in general and particularly how government structures may affect spatial segregation, urban growth and sustainable development of cities. She has expertise in spatial statistics and has researched the use of GIS for Spatial Planning by local authorities. The differences/commonalties in national approaches to planning and planning education are another research strand.
